We are all trying to be as healthy as we can these days. 
It’s only for our own good. 
I recently signed up for a home study to get my Group Fitness Certification.
I got my materials the other day and I was going through them the other day and found some really useful information regarding Basic Nutrition and Weight Management and I thought I would share some of that with you because lets face it we all can exercise till we are blue in the face but if we are not fueling our bodies with the correct things we will not get where we want to be. 
Did you know that there are 7 nutrients that our bodies need.
1. Carbohydrates

Do you know the function of carbs? 
They are the bodys primary source of energy. 
Did you know that there are 2 types of carbs?
Complex carbs like whole grain breads, cereals, pastas, flour, vegetables and fruits.
There are also simple carbs like syrups, jellies and cakes.
Did you know that 55-60% of daily caloric intake should come from carbs. 
2. Fats

Do you know the function of fats?
They are involved in the maintenance of healthy skin, insulation agains heat and cold, fat protects vital organs and its major storage form of energy.
Did you know there are 2 kinds of fats.
Unsaturated Fats such as olive oil, canola oil, and corn oil. There is also Saturated Fats such as meats, milk, cream, butter and egg yolks. 
Did you know that 20-30% of your daily caloric intake should be from fats in general and less than 10% should come from saturated fats. 
3. Proteins

Do you know the function of protein? 

They are the building blocks of the cells in the body. They repair, rebuild and replace cells. They also regulate bodily processes involved in fighting infection. 
Did you know there are 2 kinds of proteins? 
Complete Protein which is food that contains all 9 essential amino acids such as lean meats, fish, milk, and eggs.
There is also Incomplete Proteins which is foods that only have some of the essential amino acids. Such as cereals, nuts, dried peas, and beans. 
Did you know there are 11 non-essential amino acids that are produced by the body. 
Did you know that 10-15% of your daily caloric intake should come from proteins. 
4. Fiber

Do you know the function of fiber?
Fiber passes through the body and is nit digestible. Fiber gives bulk to foods within the body to help with waste products. Fiber also keeps the digestive tract muscles healthy and carries harmful substances out fo the body helping to prevent heart disease and cancer. 
5. Vitamins

Do you know the function of vitamins?
Vitamins are responsible for many bodily processes.
There are 2 categories of vitamins.
Fat Soluble Vitamins which are stored in fat. A, D, E, and K are all fat soluble and can be toxic if over consumed.
There are also Water Soluble Vitamins which are not stored within the body. They are either used or secreted. These are your Bs and C. 
6. Minerals 

Do you know the functions of minerals?
Minerals are builders, activators, regulators, transmitters and controllers of the bodys metabolic processes. They work with vitamins for absorption into the body. 
7. Water

Do you know the function of water?

Water provides the medium for and is an end product of activity. Water is important for efficient metabolism. Water represents 40-60% of an individuals total body weight. It also makes up about 72% of the weight of muscle. 
Did you know that you are supposed to consume at least 64 ounces of water a day.

    I have become a water fiend lately – I’ve been drinking at least 2L a day, but often more! It feels great!
    Excited to start planning a little more to incorporate more good foods 🙂

    I really enjoyed your post! How amazing to see what our body really needs. Cutting certain foods out just shows that it can really hurt us. I was told that all carbs are bad & to eat a healthy hand full of nuts.. etc during the day if you get sluggish. Think that I need to spend some time & really figure out a good balanced meal plan. Thanks again ..you’ve got me thinking!

    Such a great post. I think it’s important that we understand what our body really needs instead of listening to some “right now” diet scam. I have a lot of questions regarding the ‘powder’ supplements. I’ll also need to find a good vitamin.. anyway you got me thinking. Thank you for such a great post.

    Thanks for the tips! I’m still working on taking my vitamins everyday but I’m bad about skipping breakfast so that doesn’t help lol. Glad I found your blog and I look forward to reading more posts!
