Weight Loss Questions

I saw these questions over at She is on a Run and I loved them.
These are questions I get a lot and I thought I would share my answers with you!
1. When did you start gaining weight?
I never started gaining weight. I was heavy all my life. I remember being young and in elementary school and getting picked on and made fun of all the time because I was the fat kid. 
2. What was your heaviest weight?
At my heaviest I was 280 pounds.

3. What diets have you been on?
I do not diet so to speak. I find that when you are on a diet you tend to stick with it for a week or so and then fall off. I have adapted a lifestyle change. I eat clean and healthy. I do try to limit the amount of added sugars I eat and I am mindful of the amount of cheese and dairy I take in as well.
4. Is your goal a number size or a goal on the scale?
I do not have a number size or goal. I keep an eye on my BMI and my body fat percentage and keep them both in a healthy range. I also listen to my body. I know when I am at my best physical condition. I can feel it. 
5. What is your favorite food?
This is a hard question for me. I have a few favorite foods. Healthy favorite foods would be without a doubt avocado. LOVE me some avocado. Not so healthy foods? Anything s’mores, anything apple crisp.

6. What food will you not give up? 
Anything s’mores. The thing with the way I eat and keep up with my weight loss is I do not restrict myself from anything. If I want something I will have it I will just have it in moderation. I have found that when I tell myself that I can’t have something I binge on it. We all do. It’s normal. 
7. How do you reward your accomplishments?
I go shopping! I do not believe in rewarding myself with food. Food in my eyes should NEVER be a reward and should be viewed as fuel for your body. 
8. What will you do at a goal?
Again I go shopping for something I have been lusting over for a while. 
9. What diet are you following now?
Again I do not follow any specific diet, although I take concepts of all different diets and adapt them to work for me. For example I try to eat as clean as I can. I limit the amount of processed food I eat and I also limit the amount of added sugar I consume along with dairy. 
10. Favorite body part?
Hands down my arms and legs now that I am getting the results I want from weight lifting and teaching BodyCombat. I am seeing more and more definition and that makes me smile! 

11. What are your non scale goals?
To be healthy. I have accomplished the goal of loosing weight so now I just want to maintain my loss and stay healthy and active. I also want to continue to run 5 and 8K’s. I also want to become a Certified Personal Trainer. 
12. What makes losing weight hard for you?
The hardest part was when I first started. It was a complete change of EVERYTHING in my life. I made small changes at first and got used to them before I would change something else. For example I would change out whole wheat and whole grain bread for white bread. Then I swapped regular pasta for whole wheat and whole grain pasta. White rice I swapped with brown rice. Things like that. Since loosing weight it has become a way of life for me so I don’t even think about it anymore. 
13. Would you ever consider weight loss surgery?
NO WAY! I have my own thoughts on this and I tend to keep them to myself as they stir up a lot of controversy and I just don’t want to go there. 
14. What motivates you to keep losing weight?
I am no longer loosing weight. I have gone from 280 pounds to 150 pound and I am happy where I am. I maintain this current weight because I do not want to go back to the way I felt when I was heavier. I was so so unhappy when I was heavier. I had a warped sense of self-worth back then. I thought I was not good enough which was a terrible feeling. I never want to feel that way again. 
15. Whats your favorite part of losing weight?
The way I feel now compared to when I was heavier is hands down my favorite part of losing the weight. I can’t lie I am also digging the way I look now too!

    wow so inspiring! You have answered all the questions in my head. But I am still in amazement, where all the fats has gone? Looking at your recent picture doesn’t show any sign of a person who has an overweight history. and you look way younger than you are.     I know I’ve said this before, but you are such an inspriation Nikki!! You are just kicking that weight’s ass and doing a great job! I have a question though – do you plan on losing more weight or are you happy with your size now and just focused on toning?

    I loved this question and answer post. I truly believe in small life changes, food as fuel not as a reward or punishment. You are looking amazing and most importantly I’m so happy to hear you are feeling fabulous as well. It’s not a number on the scale, it’s a new lifestyle. Enjoy!

    Even with the weight you are gorgeous! I love your mindset – just to be healthy and not focus on a number or on a “diet”. I tried dieting for 2 weeks and I’m already eating crap again – it’s totally because of the diet mindset. And I think not rewarding yourself with food is important too, Hubbs is falling into that and I think that’s why he’s having a hard time.

    Oh goodness, words can not describe how happy I was to find this post.

    I do have one question (as a fellow lady trying to lose the pounds): have you experienced any extra skin/saggy skin? It has to be my biggest fear, but you look awesome, how did you do it? I’m just so nervous that I will work SO HARD to lose all this weight only to have all this extra skin.

    You are awesome, by the way. Congrats – you are beautiful!
