Healthy Eating & Working Out

Well friends we have done it. We have made it to Friday! Whoop!

Today I was driving to work and I was in deep thought. Deep thought about eating healthy. Random I know but it is what it is. As most of you all know I have lost a significant amount of weight.

Because of my weight loss journey I have changed the way I live my life and the things I eat. I used to eat like crap. I used to eat things like McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s among other fast food. I used to eat pizza, ice cream, cookies, cakes, and candy like it was my job. If you would have asked me what veggies or protein I ate back then I would have looked at you like you had 6 heads. No joke.

I was driving to work today and I was thinking about a conversation I had with someone recently. We were talking about food choices. Tuna came up and the person said that they use mayo in their tuna as does a lot of people. I was asked how I liked my tuna and I said with avocado, mustard and greek yogurt. I got the side eye. I also got “you are hard-core” to which I was thrown off. Hard core? ME? Really?!?!

That got me thinking about other things in my “diet” to which I use that term lightly. Because I am not on a diet I just chose to eat and live a healthy lifestyle. Mr. Big Truck and I have a relatively clean and healthy lifestyle. We tend to stay away from white anything like flour, rice, pasta, and we gravitate towards brown rice, whole grain pasta if and when we do eat it which is few and far between and quinoa. When something calls for flour we use almond, coconut, or whole wheat flour which we have recently decided that we are going to phase out whole wheat flour all together. We do not add salt to anything nor do we use sugar and if we do need sugar for something we will use brown sugar, coconut sugar, or splenda we also sweeten things with honey or pure maple syrup. We have decided that we are going to limit if not totally eliminate all the processed food we eat. Being realistic totally eliminate it may not happen. I mean let’s be real when I am in a pinch I will buy something if I have to but we try to avoid it as much as possible.

Now that #babybigtruck is getting bigger and starting with food we have decided to forego the puree food and we are doing baby-led weaning with her. Which means she will be eating whatever we are eating. With that in mind I sure as heck do not want her eating all the processed junk that is so readily available now a days. Will she eventually have some? Yes I am sure she will. Will she solely survive on it? Not if Mr. Big Truck and I have anything to say and do about it.

Will we have sweets from time to time? Sure we are human. Will we have a slice of pizza from time to time? You bet. Will we have ice cream or fro-yo. Yup! We do not enjoy these things on a daily basis though.

I have no real idea of where I am going with this post to be honest but I do know that I was kind of offended -maybe not offended but really thrown for a loop- in a way by what this person said to me. I do not go around telling people how to eat. If someone asks me for a suggestion to make something healthy I will then and only then offer up my suggestions. I do not make off-handed or rude comments to people when they decide to eat something that I personally would not eat. To be honest it is not my place to tell anyone how to eat however again if asked I will say something. I guess what I am getting at is don’t judge me for the way I eat if it is different than the way you eat.

Something else that was said to me by the same person was you work out a lot. Well I will be the first to tell you that yes I DID work out a lot. DID. As in I do not anymore. I am lucky if I get any kind of workout in other than squats and wall push ups in the bathroom -yup I really do that- and quick 30 minute walk around the parking lot at work. Gone are the days of 2 hours, 5 or 6 days a week at the gym. Gone are the days of countless hours of practice to memorize new choreography for my classes. To be honest with you do I miss working out hard? Yes I do. Will I get back into it? Yes I will. Will I log the kind of time at the gym that I used to? Probably not, at least not for a while. I used to spend so much time working out and logging hours at the gym and ya know what? Even though I did enjoy it, it was a lot. A LOT!

I have also had people comment on the fact that I take supplements. Why yes, yes I do. And ya know what I have NEVER felt better in my life than I have in the past 2 years plus since I have been on product. I decided to fill my body with TOP QUALITY nutritional products. I do not care how healthy anyone thinks they eat or thinks they are we can all do something to make us that much more healthier. I picked AdvoCare.

So friends do you. Do what works for you. Eat how you feel is best for you. Get up and move. Be it hours on end or a quick 30 minute walk. Just get up and do something. Be as healthy as you can be because in the end we all have a limited number of days.

    Well said. I still get, “Are you still not doing the whole dairy thing?” I don’t get offended anymore or come back with a remark about not missing feeling like crap. I just smile and say yes. There is no point in getting upset. I do it for me.
