Well, it’s only been about a month and a half since I was last in these parts and I have to say I have missed writing! Truth be told though I had to take some time and step back. I needed some time away from constant social media and I have to say it has been nice!
Since my last post was talking about being a Hands Free Mama I have to say I have totally embraced it and am loving it! While I am not 100% hands free I have made it a point to be hands free when I am with #babybigtruck and Mr. Big Truck unless there is something specific I need or have to look up pertaining to what we are doing.
Lets review shall we? I deleted the personal Facebook App from my phone and that has considerably cut my usage. I now either have to drag my behind to a computer or I have to use the browser on my phone. I do have my Blog Facebook app on the phone and I have not been on that for a while seeing how I have not be posting. I still have Instagram which I post pretty regularly on but 99% of the time I post after #babybigtruck is in bed and when Mr. Big Truck and I are just chilling out. I still have Twitter but if I am being honest I am not that active on that to begin with. I mean my blog posts get tweeted thanks to the interface on WordPress but yeah that’s about all I do with that. I had downloaded snapchat but I deleted it. I only troll Pinterest while I am at work and have some down time and that about sums up my social media outlets.
Another way I have committed to being a Hands Free Mama is by putting the phone down while I am driving. I will admit I used to be one of those people who would text while they were sitting at a red light ALL.THE.TIME. I mean it was bad. I would also send a text using the speak to text feature on my phone. I know I know bad bad bad. Since having #babybigtruck I have made it a point to put the phone away while I am driving. If Mr. Big Truck is driving I will man his phone for him so he doesn’t text while he drives too. I also have specific ringers for Mr. Big Truck and my mom this way I know if they are the ones calling or texting. If I am on a phone call while I am driving I have my phone connected to bluetooth through my truck so both hands are always on the wheel.
Mr. Big Truck and I have been very diligent about NOT having any devices at the dinner table. We have had a few exceptions to this last week while we were away on vacation because someone, read #babybigtruck, was definitely starting to hit her limit with eating out. Generally when we sit to have dinner all phones and the iPad get put on the counter or somewhere else out of reach. Dinner time is our time as a family to simply be together.
By no means are we 100% Hands Free but we have DEFINITELY cut back and it has been great for our family. If you are on the fence about doing it I can not say enough about it. Pull the plug and do it!
