Respect

Respect.

To me it is something that is lacking in the world in general.

The other day I was talking to a friend of mine and we were talking about how people in the world today just lack respect in general. She was telling me a story about how one of her husbands coworkers was flat out rude to a customer at work the other day and how said coworker had to basically pay the price for their actions.

It got me thinking about how Mr. Big Truck and I plan to and are already trying to instill respect in #babybigtruck. It also got me thinking about what the God has to say about respect.

Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor. 1 Peter 2:17

Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Romans 12:10

Now I know not everyone has the same beliefs as I do but I really feel that respect encompasses everyone and these verses can be applied. Really respect is a universal thing that everyone should have.

Mr. Big Truck and I have had many a conversation about how we want to raise #babybigtruck and obviously respect for others ranks right up there. We will be on her for things like manners. Simple things like yes sir, yes ma’am, no sir, no ma’am. Yes please and no thank you are non negotiables. Also she will call people Mr. So and so and Miss. So and so unless otherwise directed by the person she is addressing. It’s little things like that that we want to make sure she understands.

Another thing pertaining to respect that we are going to make sure she is aware of is how to respect the American Flag. Sunday while the National Anthem was being preformed I was standing holding #babybigtruck and I took her right hand and held it over her heart. She did not fight me or try to pull it away. Instead she had her eyes fixated on the TV which was showing the flag and she did not make a peep.

Respect is something that is not hard to do. I mean is it really hard to be nice to others? Is it hard to listen when someone is talking to you? Is it hard to use your manners when you are interacting with others? What about valuing what others are saying when they are saying it? Then there is being sensitive to other peoples feelings. I mean really are these things all that hard? No they are not! So why do so many people have a hard time with respect?

It is so so important to both Mr. Big Truck and I that #babybigtruck grows up to be a woman of character with respect and we will do everything and anything in our power to insure that happens!

I hope and pray that our hard work to raise #babybigtruck with respect pays off!
