VBS 2016 Cave Quest Recap

So I finally have had things settle down some so I can do a VBS recap!

As you all know my friend Daniela and I were co-directors of this years VBS program at church. VBS is for kids entering kindergarten all the way through 8th grade. Daniela and I were in charge of the kids in grades K though 6. Our Youth Pastor his wife and some leaders were in charge of the kids in grades 7 and 8. The program ran from July 18 through the 22nd and it was a total success! Monday the 18th we had 78 kids pre-registered and that morning we had easily 50 more kids show up who were not registered! By the end of the week the registered count was at 140 kids total. Every day we had anywhere between 100 and 120 kids! Thankfully we planned for 125 kids daily. Next year we will be planning for 150 daily!

Every day started off with sing and play where the kids would sing a couple of songs and then there was a skit with Chloe Cavern, Danny, and Patsy. The kids loved every minute of it. All of the songs had hand motions to go with it and it was fun to see the kids singing and playing along!

After sing and play I would dismiss the kids to their respective activities. There were Games, Deep Bible Quest, KidVid Cinema, and Crafts. Everyday each activity intertwined with it a Bible Point, Bible Story, Key Verse and a Bible Buddy.

Monday: Bible Buddy was Sal the Salamander. The Bible Point was Jesus Gives us hope! Bible Story was about how the prophets foretell the light of the world. John 1-34; Isaiah 9:2. Key Verse was “O Lord, you alone are my hope.” Psalm 71:5.

Tuesday: Bible Buddy was Mawtha the Moth. The Bible Point was Jesus gives us courage. Bible Story was about Jesus and Peter walking on water. Matthew 14:22-36. Key Verse was “Take courage. I am here!” Matthew 14:27.

Wednesday: Bible Buddy was Radar the Bat. The Bible Point was Jesus gives us direction. Bible Story was Jesus sheds light on how we live. Matthew 5-7. Key verse was “He will show you which path to take.” Proverbs 3:6

Thursday: Bible Buddy was Olivia the Owl. The Bible Point was Jesus gives us love. Bible Story was about Jesus dying and coming back to life. Luke 23:1-24:12. Key Verse was “We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us.” 1 John 3:16.

Friday: Bible Buddy was Ray the Glowworm. The Bible Point was Jesus gives us his power. Bible Story was Jesus ascends and empowers his followers. Acts 1:1-11. Key Verse was “Our great power is from God, not from ourselves.” 2 Corinthians 4:7.

Everyday the kids were challenged to memorize their key verse and every time they heard “Jesus gives us…” they were to yell “FOLLOW HIM” as loud as they could and let me tell you they all got into it!

Daniela and I have already committed to being the directors again next year and are already starting to plan for how we want to change some things like registration so things will run smoother. Monday morning was a bit chaotic with the additional kids who showed up and we want to streamline that process next year.

I can not wait to see what God does through Daniela and I moving forward!

  Hugs, Nikki
